Cerisa Tempest is updating the infamous Women in Refrigerators list and I notice that there's one name that didn't make it to the original list and isn't on the new list either.
Okay, look I know she was badly written, had a horrible costume, and nobody liked her, but she had one of the most unfair, pathetic superhero deaths ever, and it feels like the writing her out of continuity was been so thorough that not even the readers remember her.
She may only have been the one between the Peter David one and the skinny one, but she was still Supergirl.

Well, at least Jeph Loeb does.
And yet he completely avoided any mention of her or Linda in any of his Supergirl stories.
I should be pleased to see her and Linda show up in Superman/Batman #24, but somehow it's like seeing a once great actor reduced to guest appearances on game shows.
I mean, okay, Cir-El was never great, but it's still depressing.
... but she was still Supergirl.

Agreed. Since DC treats these characters pretty much like "brands", I supppose for them Cir-El was the "New" Coke. Since the character didn't work out, they're basically trying to have us all forget the original circumstances that produced her, which is indeed a bummer. (Especially since actions like that actually tarnish the "brand.")
Does Linda exist anymore? Didio says Superboy's retcon-punch wiped the Matrix Supergirl out of existence, so how would the Peter David Supergirl still be in continuity?
And how exactly do you change history by hitting it? Is that really the best they could come up with? This has to be the lamest excuse to revamp continuity ever.
Totally off-topic, but as a French teacher who happens to like comic books, I'd like to help you out with the whole Valerian project. If you get stuck on random phrases here and there, just shoot me an email at toby dot snedecor at gee mail dot com and I'll see what I can do.
I must confess, I'm not being totally altruistic- helping you translate would help me keep my linguistic skills sharp.
Thanks Toby. That's another project I must find some time to get back to. I need more hours in a day.
Ah..Cir-El. Yeah, she was an easy miss on the list, unfortunately.
Though I didn't quite like her much, it seems a lot of the hate for her comes from the "She's not a REAALL Supergirl" mentality or the "She's not Linda Danvers so she sucks and is a pretender!" one (which I've seen with the Nu-Kara also).
If she was so redundant, they could've just changed her name and shuffled her off into limbo in some other way.
Then again..maybe it was better this way then having her get her head punched off/impaled through the breasts and into the heart, or one of the more drawn-out IC deaths.
Yeah, I was discussing this earlier. In Original Crisis everyone in the DCU got a part, even if they hadn't been seen for decades or had been written out of continuity.
In Infinite Crisis, or New Crisis if you like, many characters such as Linda got written out without a single panel appearence, but given the number who just showed up long enough to suffer a hideous mutilation, that's perhaps a mercy.
